The gilis, as they are known collectively, are located some 20 km north of Senggigi. Each island boasts excellent beaches and diving thanks to extensive coral reefs that encircle each island. It is these coral reefs that are home to the blue coral, a coral said to grow in only two places in the world the Caribbean and here, off the coast of Lombok.
Traditional boats (perahu) departing form Bangsal (see L8) or Senggigi ferry passengers out to any of the island (15-30 mins/Senggigi 1 hour). Gili Trawangan offers some deluxe and lots of relatively cheap accommodation and has more activities for young people, while Gili Air offers a good range of accommodation.
Gili Meno,which has a bird park, is the least developed or crowded of the islands and therefore is perfect for relaxing. Perama provides direct travel from Pandangbai in Bali to Senggigi and Gili Trawangan
